World needs peace, but not at expense of Ukraine's surrender - Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron has said that the world needs lasting peace, rather than the surrender of Ukraine, and called the Russian regime imperialist and revisionist.

He said this at a session of the first Peace Summit in Burgenstock, Switzerland, according to am Ukrinform correspondent.

"We seek to build lasting peace, but such peace cannot be the surrender of Ukraine. That is why the prerequisite is to help Ukraine in resisting this aggression, because there is one aggressor and his victim," Macron said.

According to the French leader, politicians from all continents gathered at the summit because they want a lasting peace that respects international law and restores Ukraine's sovereignty.

"No one (in this hall - ed.) is fighting against Russia, but by starting this war, Russia decided first of all to become an imperialist regime," the French president said.

In his opinion, "Russia has also decided to be a revisionist state, because it wants to review recent treaties and justify annexation to what the world was like in the 19th or 18th century."
