Putin not interested in genuine peace - Sunak

Russian leader Vladimir Putin is not interested in genuine peace, which is why he launched a long diplomatic campaign against the Peace Summit.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said this in his speech at the Peace Summit, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

He said that Putin had launched a long diplomatic campaign against the summit, telling countries to stay away from it. So we have to ask why Russia thinks that it is so threatened by the summit, which discusses the basic principles of territorial integrity, food and nuclear security, Sunak said.

According to him, Russia said at the UN that the only topic of any international meetings regarding Ukraine would be the unconditional surrender of the Kyiv regime.

However, this will never happen, the prime minister said. We must establish the principles of a just and lasting peace based on international law and the UN Charter, Sunak said, adding that this is the way to the final cessation of hostilities.

In his opinion, the current summit is an opportunity to start this path to jointly respond to the global consequences of the war.

Sunak recalled that during his visit to Kyiv, he saw explosive devices planted by Russian soldiers during their retreat in children's toys and soccer balls.

He said that there could be no justification for this as well as the escalation of nuclear rhetoric, the termination of food supplies to tens of millions of people in need.
