Von der Leyen welcomes Jeddah agreements: EU ready to join future peace talks

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed the positive outcome of negotiations between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations in Saudi Arabia and stated that the EU is prepared to participate in future peace talks.

She shared this message on social media platform X, Ukrinform reports.

"We welcome today's news from Jeddah on the U.S.-Ukraine talks, including the proposal for a ceasefire agreement and the resumption of U.S. intelligence sharing and security assistance. This is a positive development that can be a step towards a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine," von der Leyen wrote.

She stressed that "the ball is now in Russia's court."

According to von der Leyen, "the EU is ready to play its full part, together with its partners, in the upcoming peace negotiations."

Ukraine and U.S. delegations met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on March 11. The negotiations lasted over eight hours.

Following the talks, Ukraine's Presidential Office issued a joint statement, according to which Ukraine accepted the U.S. proposal for an immediate 30-day ceasefire.
