Kherson Mayor Ihor Kolikhayev was detained by Russian invaders.

His press secretary Halyna Lyashevska broke the news on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"They took Ihor Kolykhayev," she wrote.

The agency’s correspondent has learned that the mayor was at his office where the executive committee staffers, who remained in the city, moved after Kherson was captured by the Russians.

He was escorted out of his office in handcuffs.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on March 28 in the town of Hola Prystan, invaders abducted Mayor Oleksandr Babych. His whereabouts are unknown.

As of June 22, the Kherson Region PD opened 408 criminal proceedings into the abduction of local residents across the region. So far, 204 citizens have been released, while the fate of another 204 remains unclear.

The Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine for the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Tamila Tasheva, said that in Kherson region, Russian invaders hold about 600 people in torture chambers, while some abducted inhabitants are taken to the occupied Crimea.
