According to Ukrinform, the SSU’s press center reported the arrest.
Investigators say the agent was a 54-year-old installer working for a local construction company. He came to the attention of Russian intelligence when he tried to purchase fake documents online to leave Ukraine posing as a foreigner.
After being recruited, the agent collected geolocation data on energy-generating facilities that supply electricity to large residential areas in Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia.
Using his position in a construction company involved in repairing damaged Ukrainian energy infrastructure, he gathered intelligence. While working on site, he assessed the technical condition of potential targets and took photos with geolocation tags using Google Maps.
The SSU notes that by sending this information to his Russian handler, he effectively directed repeat Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in these cities.
To hide his activities, the agent used multiple mobile phones, which he regularly changed and stored at a relative’s home.
The SSU operatives identified and detained the traitor at his place of residence.
He has been officially charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — high treason committed under martial law.
