Kyiv remains No. 1 target for Russia - Ukraine’s Air Force

Russian occupation forces continue their strikes targeting critical infrastructure across Ukraine, while their No.1 target remains Kyiv.

That’s according to Colonel Yuriy Ihnat, the spokesman for the Air Force Command, who spoke on national television, Ukrinform reports.

"The enemy is attacking critical infrastructure facilities, in particular, those of Kyiv and region’s fuel and energy sector – that's where the occupiers direct most of their cruise missiles," the spokesman said.

Ihnat noted that the Air Force is improving its ability to destroy enemy targets, but there is still a shortage of launchers.

"Unfortunately, it is not always possible to destroy 100% of drones because they are designed in the same way as cruise missiles to pass air defense. But, as we can see, the result is 75, 85, 90, and sometimes even 100 percent, which proves how professional are our soldiers performing their tasks. First of all, these are anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force, our aviation, including fighter jets, as well as mobile fire groups, which have been deployed across all defense forces, destroying UAVs with small arms, MANPADS, etc. The well-being of all Ukrainians depends on these people, including on New Year's Eve," the spokesman emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said more than 50 power substations of various voltage classes and more than 50 high-voltage power lines were damaged as a result of Russian strikes on the power system of Ukraine.
