More than 52,000 Ukrainian soldiers, sergeants and officers have already undergone training as part of the EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM), which exceeded expectations by three times.

That's according to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Ukrinform reports.

Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister for European Integration Oleksandr Balanutsa and Director General of the EU Military Staff, Lieutenant General Michiel van der Laan discussed the need to continue this mission.

Balanutsa said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were currently forming new brigades, so there was a need for quality military training.

Extending the EU military aid mission to Ukraine is crucial, he said.

"We are grateful for the training already provided and urge you to maintain and increase the volume and pace," Balanutsa said.

Van der Laan, in turn, said that he supports the idea of continuing the training of Ukrainian military personnel as part of this mission.

The EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine was launched in the fall of 2022. It is designed for two years. However, if necessary, it can be extended.
