Netherlands to contribute to supplying patriot air defense systems to Ukraine – defense minister

According to Ukrinform, the minister announced this on the social media platform X.
"Digital meeting with defense ministers on more support to Ukraine. The Netherlands will contribute substantially to delivering U.S. air defense systems (Patriots). Details are worked out soon. We also step up our air defense support: F16-ammunition, counter-drones, radars, etc.," Brekelmans wrote.

"The Russian airborne terror campaign has reached new lows daily. The Russian goal is simple: to bring the steadfast Ukrainians to their knees. We cannot allow this to happen. We therefore want to make a substantial contribution to additional air defense for Ukraine. Much has already been done, but more is needed. Only by continuing our relentless and massive support for Ukraine and increasing the pressure on Russia can we force Russia to the negotiating table," Brekelmans said during an online meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG).
Close and frequent consultations are currently underway with the United States and other allies regarding the U.S. initiative to supply additional weapon systems, including air defense systems such as Patriots.
"Ukraine protects the front line against Russian aggression for all of Europe. If Russia is able to break through, it immediately poses a greater threat to the rest of Europe and NATO," Brekelmans said.
According to the ministry, providing air defense is a key priority for Dutch military support to Ukraine. Therefore, in addition to a complete Patriot system, the Netherlands has also delivered 24 F-16 fighter jets and associated ammunition and spare parts, several anti-aircraft guns, and I-HAWK systems. The Netherlands is also providing Ukraine with drone detection radars and maritime vessels equipped with air defense equipment.
The latest meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group took place on July 21, held as an online conference.
