Overnight on August 24, long-range drones of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Special Operations Forces (SOF) caused a massive explosion at the industrial facilities of Ust-Luga port in Russia’s Leningrad region.

This was reported to Ukrinform by SSU sources.

According to preliminary information, Ukrainian drones hit the Novatek gas processing complex, Russia’s largest liquefied gas producer. Video footage shows a powerful explosion followed by a massive fire. Observers note that the strike targeted the cryogenic gas fractionation unit — considered the “heart” of the facility’s technological processes.

This is the second successful SSU drone attack on Ust-Luga this year, the first having occurred in early January, the SSU reminded.

“Through this terminal, Russia trades oil and gas using its ‘shadow fleet.’ Drone strikes by the SSU reduce the inflow of foreign currency that Russia needs to wage war,” said an informed SSU source.

As previously reported, overnight on January 4, unknown drones also attacked the Ust-Luga port. According to sources, the drones were operated by the SSU.
