The shooting during a Hanukkah celebration on Sunday at a beach in Sydney, which resulted in deaths, was carried out by a father and his son.

According to Reuters, Australian police stated this on Monday, Ukrinform reports.

According to law enforcement, 15 people were killed in the attack.

In addition, the 50-year-old gunman was killed at the scene. His 24-year-old son is in critical condition in hospital. Authorities described the shooting as a targeted antisemitic attack.

As The Guardian reports, police confirm alleged shooters are father and son, Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram.

Several other people were injured, including two police officers, whose condition is described as serious but stable. The victims ranged in age from 10 to 87.

Witnesses said the attack at the popular Bondi Beach, crowded with people on a hot evening, lasted about 10 minutes and caused panic, with hundreds of people fleeing into nearby streets. In total, about a thousand people were attending the Hanukkah celebration, which was held in a small park near the beach.

As Ukrinform reported, a 43-year-old fruit shop owner named Ahmed al-Ahmed tackled and disarmed one of the shooters.

Al-Ahmed sustained two injuries and underwent surgery. By Monday morning, more than AUD 200,000 (about $132,000) had been raised on a fundraising page to support him.

On Sunday evening, police conducted a search of the suspects' home, located 36 km west of Sydney's central business district.
