The Parliament of Georgia has approved a draft of a new Election Code, the key innovation of which is that polling stations will no longer operate abroad during parliamentary elections.

This was reported by Sova, according to Ukrinform.

Under the new legislation, parliamentary elections, like municipal elections, will henceforth be held exclusively on the territory of Georgia.

Political parties will now have the right to nominate only their party members as candidates in parliamentary and municipal elections, while non-party candidates may be nominated solely by initiative groups.

Additionally, individuals who are expelled from a polling station on voting day will be barred from entering any other polling station. For this purpose, the election administration will register the personal data of such individuals.

A person convicted in a criminal case and fined by a court will also be deprived of the right to serve as a member of an election commission. As reported by Ukrinform, the Parliament of Georgia has approved another bill, under an expedited procedure, that tightens the rules governing protest actions.
