An Indian citizen was among those killed in Russia’s attack on Ukraine overnight on September 1.

Ukrinform reports this, citing a Facebook post by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

Efforts to deal with the aftermath of the Russian attack have been underway in many cities and communities since the overnight hours, with nearly 350 rescuers deployed in Kyiv and the surrounding region alone, the post says.

“A significant number of jet-powered UAVs and ballistic missiles were launched in the attack. Unfortunately, residential and civilian infrastructure was damaged. In Boryspil, an ordinary five-story apartment building was damaged. Fifty people were evacuated. The relevant emergency services are on the scene. Businesses were also hit. Overall, four people were killed and 13 injured in the city. My condolences,” Zelensky said.

The president noted that attacks involving guided aerial bombs and drones continued in Odesa and the surrounding region from the evening. Thousands of households were left without electricity, and efforts are underway to restore power to residents as quickly as possible.

Russia also deliberately damaged a border crossing with Romania, as well as export infrastructure. In Kyiv, a strike on a railway depot killed seven people.

He added that the Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions also came under attack.

“Overall, 12 people were killed, including a citizen of India, and dozens more were injured in the attack. My condolences to everyone who has lost family members and loved ones,” the president said.

Zelensky said Russia always plans its strikes specifically to cause maximum destruction and that it succeeds only when there are insufficient air defense capabilities.

He expressed gratitude to everyone helping Ukraine receive anti-ballistic missile capabilities through PURL and bilateral deliveries, adding that it is very important for these deliveries to increase this autumn. The number of victims of Russian terror directly depends on every new aid package

As previously reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian air defenses neutralized five ballistic missiles, two S8000 Banderol missiles, five Kalibr missiles and 187 UAVs launched by Russian forces on Ukraine since the evening of August 31.
