According to Ukrinform, he made the remarks in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.
The president said that it was sad that Ukraine was losing a strong partner, adding that this was his personal opinion.
When asked whether he believed Ukraine was losing the United States, Zelensky confirmed that it was. However, he stressed that this was not Ukraine's fault, explaining that the country could not afford to be weak if it wanted to survive. He emphasized that Ukraine was not willing to sell its country, as the issue was not about business but about its life, homeland, people, families, and children. He said it was painful to see President Trump choose a side that did not support Ukraine.
Zelensky added that Ukraine had no objection to Trump acting as a mediator, but stressed that if he intended to remain neutral, he needed to maintain that position rather than side with the wrong party.
The Ukrainian president also expressed the view that Trump's advisers were making a mistake, although he said he did not know who was influencing the American president to take what he considered the wrong side of history.
