Canada welcomes the opportunity to help create conditions for freedom, democracy, peace, and prosperity in Venezuela and supports the right of its people to build their future.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney states this on the social media platform X, Ukrinform reports.

"One of the first actions taken by Canada's new government in March 2025 was to impose additional sanctions on Nicolas Maduro's brutally oppressive and criminal regime," he recalled.

According to Carney, his country has not recognized the illegitimate Maduro regime since the falsification of the 2018 elections and supports a peaceful, coordinated, and Venezuelan-led political transition process that respects the democratic will of the people.

At the same time, Canada calls on all parties to respect international law, he said. "We stand by the Venezuelan people's sovereign right to decide and build their own future in a peaceful and democratic society," Carney emphasized.

He noted that Canada places great importance on resolving crises through multilateral engagement and maintains close contacts with international partners regarding developments in Venezuela.

"We are first and foremost ready to assist Canadians through our consular officials and our embassy in Bogota, Colombia, and will continue to support Venezuelan refugees," the Canadian prime minister added.

As Ukrinform previously reported, Donald Trump said that the United States is working with Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez regarding her participation in governing the country after the detention of dictator Nicolas Maduro.
