ZNPP preparing to transfer unit 4 from cold to hot shutdown state - IAEA

As an Ukrinform correspondent reports, this is stated in a statement on IAEA website.

IAEA experts have continued to inspect ZNPP in recent days and have not found any mines or explosives but are still waiting for access to the roofs of 3 and 4 reactors, where according to available information there may be explosives, the statement said.

IAEA confirmed that the two main reservoirs for cooling ZNPP reactors have a stable water level, which decreases by only 1-2 cm per day due to evaporation and use. The station has enough water for several months, the daily report stressed.

At the same time, ZNPP workers are preparing to transfer the 4th power unit from a cold shutdown to a hot shutdown. After this, the 5th power unit, which is currently in a hot shutdown mode, will be transferred to a cold shutdown for preventive works, which are possible only during a cold shutdown. Other blocs remain in cold mode, the international organization assured.

To maintain safety, including the processing of liquid radioactive waste, the plant uses steam produced by one of the power units, which is in a state of hot shutdown.

As Ukrinform reported, on March 4, 2022, Russians seized ZNPP.

On June 22, 2023, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Russia's plans to carry out a terrorist attack at the station.

Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, said that Ukraine is carefully preparing for any scenario at ZNPP.

On June 30, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that Russian contingent is gradually leaving the territory of ZNPP.

At the end of June, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro regions conducted large-scale training of emergency services to deal with the consequences of a possible terrorist attack at ZNPP.

On July 4, the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially warned about the possible preparation of provocations at ZNPP by Russian invaders.
