The Board of Governors of the IAEA condemned the July 8 missile strike targeting the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv, calling out Russia as an actor responsible for the act.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

"The Board of Governors approved the relevant resolution at an emergency closed-door meeting held on July 12 at the request of Ukraine. In particular, the document states that the Board strongly condemns the disruption of IAEA technical assistance to Ukraine caused by the recent military strike by the Russian Federation on the National Children's Specialized Hospital Okhmatdyt," the statement reads.

Minister of Energy German Galushchenko thanked the IAEA Board of Governors for the resolute reaction to the openly terrorist actions by the enemy.

In his opinion, the brazen attack on the Okhmatdyt hospital is a violation of the basic principles and values ​​of the IAEA, undermining the foundation of international nuclear safety and security.

The Board of Governors also supported continued IAEA technical cooperation efforts with Ukraine, including further assistance to Okhmatdyt and other similar facilities, to ensure continuity of medical services and strengthen radiation safety measures.

As reported, on July 8, Russia launched massive strikes on Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and other cities of Ukraine. According to the latest updates, 42 people were killed, including four children, while 190 were injured.

In the capital, one of the missiles hit the building of the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital. Two floors of the hospital building with an area of ​​approximately 400 square meters were destroyed. Several other buildings were damaged.

The Okhmatdyt clinic treats seriously ill children, including cancer patients. The hospital hosts 27 sources of ionizing radiation.

Okhmatdyt receives technical assistance from the IAEA within the framework of the Technical Cooperation Program in important projects in several areas, such as radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, and diagnostic radiology.
