Russian troops fire on column of volunteer buses near Chernihiv

Russian troops have opened fire on a column of volunteer buses, which were driving towards Chernihiv for evacuation purposes.

The relevant statement was made by Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Five buses came under enemy targeted fire, when they were attempting to enter the besieged city to evacuate people. There were only civilian volunteers in the buses. As a result, one person was killed, four people were seriously wounded,” Denisova noted.

In her words, one of buses managed to escape with punctured tires. The driver was wounded and taken to hospital.

According to Denisova, Russian invaders do not give the slightest opportunity to evacuate civilians from the besieged city of Chernihiv. They are actually holding dozens of thousands of people hostage without food, water, heating, and are shelling residential areas with heavy artillery on a daily basis.

“Such actions are another war crime and a crime against the humanity, committed by Russian troops, in accordance with Article 7 and Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court,” Denisova stressed.

She called on the UN Commission established to investigate violations committed during Russia’s military attack on Ukraine to consider the evidence of war crimes and crimes against the humanity, committed by Russian troops in Ukraine.
