Zelensky thanks world leaders for Independence Day greetings

“Dear President Trump, thank you for your heartfelt congratulations on Ukraine’s Independence Day. We appreciate your kind words for the Ukrainian people, and we thank the United States for standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in defending what is most valuable: independence, freedom, and guaranteed peace,” Zelensky wrote.

The head of state expressed confidence that “by working together, we can put an end to this war and achieve real peace for Ukraine.”

The President also thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, King Charles III of the United Kingdom, Pope Leo XIV, and Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter, who also sent congratulatory messages.

Zelensky extended thanks as well to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda for his greetings to the Ukrainian people, and to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson for his words of support.

As reported, on Sunday, August 24, Ukraine marks the 34th anniversary of its Declaration of Independence. The holiday commemorates the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR on August 24, 1991, of the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine — the political and legal document that established the new status of the state. This status was confirmed by the nationwide referendum on December 1, 1991, when 90.32% of citizens voted in favor of independence.

This year, Ukraine celebrates its most important national holiday for the fourth time under conditions of the full-scale war launched by Russia against the Ukrainian people.
