War update: 85 clashes reported on frontline, most intense fighting near Pokrovsk

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook, publishing the operational update as of 16:00 Sunday, August 24, Ukrinform reports.

“Border settlements Stara Huta, Novovasylivka, Zarichne, Sorokyne, Bachivsk, Malushyne, Brusky, Buniakyne, Hirky in Sumy region as well as Halahanivka, Bleshnia, Liskivshchyna, Huta Studenetska, Mykolaivka, Zaliznyi Mist, Mykhalchyna Sloboda, Hremiach, Kliusy in Chernihiv region suffered from Russian shelling from across the border. Airstrikes also hit Nova Huta and Stara Huta in Sumy region,” the statement reads.

In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, one Russian assault was repelled, while four clashes are still ongoing. The enemy launched 11 airstrikes using 18 guided bombs and carried out 98 attacks.

In the Kupiansk sector, five Russian attempts to advance near Kupiansk, Zapadne, Holubivka and Zelenyi Hai were repelled. One battle still ongoing.

In the Lyman sector, Russian forces carried out ten assaults near Hrekivka, Ridkodub, Karpivka, and toward Dronivka, Shandryholove, Serebrianka. Three battles are ongoing.

In the Siversk sector, the Russians attempted eleven advances near Serebrianka, Fedorivka, Vyimka, Pereizne and toward Siversk.

In the Toretsk sector, one engagement occurred near Shcherbynivka.

In the Pokrovsk sector, 31 Russian attacks have been reported since morning near Zatyshok, Nykonorivka, Nove Shakhove, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Mykolaivka, Sukhetske, Lysivka, Zvirove, and toward Rodynske, Novoukrainka, Chervonyi Lyman, Pokrovsk. Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled 27 assaults, while four battles are still ongoing. Enemy losses are being verified.

In the Novopavlivka sector, 12 Russian attacks occurred near Zelene Pole, Maliivka, Voskresenka, Shevchenko, Temyrivka and toward Novomykolaivka and Komyshuvakha. Six battles are still ongoing.

In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna, Kramatorsk, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovske sectors, no active offensive operations were recorded. Airstrikes hit Bilohiria, Naddniprianske, and Lvove.

In other areas, the situation remained without significant change.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a successful counterattack in Donetsk region, liberating three villages of Mykhailivka, Zelenyi Hai, and Volodymyrivka from Russian forces.
