Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Slovakia, Yulia Svyrydenko and Robert Fico, discussed the state of implementation of key infrastructure and energy projects and welcomed the opening of the narrow-gauge railway section between Uzhhorod and Chop.

According to Ukrinform, Svyrydenko reported this on Facebook.

The Prime Minister stated that the railway section between Uzhhorod and Chop is the first European-gauge track built in Ukraine, which opens opportunities for the development of passenger connections with several European capitals.

As noted by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, the parties also agreed to work on meaningful content for the next round of joint government consultations of the two countries, which will take place in Slovakia in the near future.

Svyrydenko thanked the Slovak government for its unwavering support of Ukraine’s European integration aspirations and the need for the earliest possible opening of negotiation clusters with the European Union, simultaneously for Ukraine and Moldova.

As reported by Ukrinform, on September 5, a European railway Uzhhorod–Chop was opened, with plans ahead for extending the European railway to Lviv. Trains will start running on the new track to Europe as of September 12.
