After talks with Szijjártó, Sybiha announced consultations on rights of Hungarian minority

The Ukrainian foreign minister reported this on social media X, according to Ukrinform. 

“Durind our call, I informed Péter Szijjártó about Russia’s escalation of terror and reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to peace efforts. We discussed the upcoming visit of Ukraine’s Deputy PM Taras Kachka to Budapest and other future bilateral contacts between Ukraine and Hungary,” Sybiha said. 

According to him, the interlocutors discussed the upcoming visit of Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka to Budapest and “other future bilateral contacts between Ukraine and Hungary.”

"We look forward to tomorrow’s consultations about the Hungarian national minority rights. Ukraine is ready to work on all bilateral issues in a mutually respectful manner," the foreign minister emphasized.

He also stressed the need to open negotiation clusters as soon as possible within the framework of Ukraine's EU accession talks and to ensure that all EU member states support this step. 

Sybiha welcomed Hungary's 10-year agreement with Shell on gas supplies “as an important step towards strengthening the energy security of our region and Europe as a whole.”

“The security of Ukraine and Europe is indivisible and strengthening it is our shared interest. Pragmatic and mutually beneficial cooperation between our two nations is key and we propose the Hungarian side to work on it constructively,” the Ukrainian diplomat stressed. 

As reported by Ukrinform, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said earlier that he was to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha in Budapest this week to discuss bilateral relations.

Sybiha called on his Hungarian counterpart to meet and hold a substantive discussion in order to agree on pragmatic solutions.

Hungary remains the only EU member state blocking the opening of the first cluster in negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
