Vance added that while the U.S. remains committed to peace, unfortunately, in recent weeks, the Russians have refused to participate in any bilateral or trilateral meetings.
“They [the Russians] have refused to sit down with any bilateral meetings with the Ukrainians, they’ve refused to sit down with any trilateral meetings with the President or some other members of the Administration who could sit down with the Russians and the Ukrainians,” the Vice President noted.
He stressed that the U.S. position has been focused on actively pursuing peace from the very start of President Donald Trump’s administration.
“A lot of people are dying and they [the Russians] don’t have a lot to show for it. How many more people are they willing to lose? How many people are they willing to kill for very little, if any, gain in the military advantage on the ground there? And the answer is, hopefully, not that much. Our attitude here is: we will keep on working for peace and we hope the Russians will actually wake to reality on the ground,” Vance summarized.
