Explosions in Russia: Substation on fire, airport operations suspended

The Governor of Volgograd region, Andrei Bocharov, claimed that a massive drone attack on regional energy infrastructure had allegedly been repelled. He stated that the fire occurred after debris from a downed UAV fell in one of the districts and that repair teams were restoring the power supply to nearby settlements. Bocharov also insisted that no casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, Rostov region Governor Yuri Slyusar reported the alleged downing of drones over the Chortkovsky, Kamyansky, Sholokhovsky, and Verkhnedonskoy districts. According to him, no residents were injured and no consequences of the attack were recorded.

Rosaviatsia, Russia’s federal air transport agency, announced temporary restrictions on arrivals and departures at the airports of Samara and Saratov overnight, citing safety concerns.

Flight operations were also suspended at Volgograd airport, but the restrictions there have since been lifted.

According to the Telegram channel Astra, Saratov residents reported hearing numerous explosions during the night.

Additionally, the Governor of Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev, reported power outages in several settlements following drone strikes “in the neighboring Volgograd region.”

He stated that several towns remained without electricity while emergency repair work was underway after the attack in the Volgograd region.

In the Belgorod region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that one person was injured in a drone strike in the Belgorod district.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed that 51 drones were allegedly shot down overnight. The ministry reported that 12 UAVs were intercepted over the Saratov region, 11 over the Volgograd region, 8 over the Rostov region, 4 each over the Bryansk and Voronezh regions, 3 over the Belgorod region, and 1 each over the Kursk region, as well as the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Six drones were allegedly destroyed over temporarily occupied Crimea.

As reported by Ukrinform, on October 15, a drone attack targeted an oil refinery in the Russian city of Ufa, located over 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
