Ukrainian forces regain control of nearly 50 km² in March – CinC Syrskyi

According to Ukrinform, this was stated by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, in a Facebook post.

“We must seize the strategic initiative, therefore we are conducting active defense. Thanks to this, in March our troops restored control over nearly 50 square kilometers of territory that had been occupied by the enemy,” he said.

According to Syrskyi, Russia continues to suffer significant losses but has not abandoned plans to capture Ukraine.

“Our main tasks are to destroy the enemy, halt their advance, strike Russian rear positions, including deep inside its territory, and protect the skies over our cities and towns,” he stressed.

He noted that Russia has intensified offensive actions due to seasonal changes and is conducting them along almost the entire 1,200-kilometer front line. The most intense fighting in March took place in the Oleksandrivka, Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, and Lyman sectors.

“We counter Russian numbers with Ukrainian quality in conducting warfare, forcing the enemy to play by our rules and constantly postpone the deadlines for accomplishing their objectives. To reduce the enemy’s offensive capabilities, we maintain high-intensity strikes on military, defense-industrial, and other targets on Russian territory that support the invaders’ operations,” Syrskyi said.

He reported that in March, Ukrainian Deep Strike capabilities hit 76 such targets, including 15 oil refining facilities.

Syrskyi also received reports on mobilization and recruitment, logistics, fortification of defensive lines, training and recovery of combat readiness, and military discipline.

“In the context of the Support Forces command report, I emphasized the need to intensify engineering and fortification work. Where defenses are prepared in advance and properly equipped, we are able to hold positions for longer, save Ukrainian defenders’ lives, and destroy more invaders,” he noted.

He also stressed that a new approach in modern drone warfare is the construction of underground routes for the movement of troops and military equipment, an approach effectively implemented by the Air Assault Forces.

The Commander-in-Chief outlined tasks for the next period and thanked Ukrainian soldiers for their resilience and dedication.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, in March, Russian personnel losses increased by 29% compared to February due to strikes carried out by Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces.
