U.S. President Joe Biden and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a meeting on Tuesday discussed the consequences of the Russian war, the multi-format strengthening of Ukraine's defense capabilities, as well as the strengthening of the NATO alliance.

That's according to a readout of the two leaders' meeting published on the White House website, Ukrinform reports.

"The leaders discussed the implications of Russia's war on Ukraine for transatlantic security and the importance of continuing to strengthen NATO's deterrence and defense," the readout reads.

Both parties also welcomed the support that Allies and partners are providing bilaterally to help Ukraine defend itself from Russian aggression. In addition, they discussed the need for Allies to build on the 2014 Wales Summit defense investment pledge.

They also underscored their shared desire to welcome Sweden to the Alliance as soon as possible.

President Biden conveyed that he is looking forward to hosting NATO Allies in Washington, D.C. July 9-11, 2024 for NATO's 75th anniversary summit.
