“The current capacities of all four Ukrainian NPPs provide the necessary volumes of electricity production for the needs of the country. Radiation, fire, and environmental levels at nuclear power plants and adjacent territories have not changed and are within current standards,” the press service of National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom informs.
In the conditions of martial law and full-scale aggression of Russia, Energoatom strengthened the control and determined the exclusive priority of safety issues of nuclear facilities over all others.
The main equipment of the reactor compartments of power units, premises and buildings of power plants, the perimeters of protected areas and adjacent areas, as well as particularly important NPP facilities outside their protected areas are under strict supervision and control.
Zaporizhzhia NPP and the town of Enerhodar have been under the control of Russian military formations for seven days now. As of the morning of March 11, 50 units of enemy equipment, about 400 Russian servicemen, a lot of explosives and weapons are in the territory of Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Ukrainian personnel work at all six power units, but the plant's management is forced to coordinate all technical issues with Russian troops. The NPP personnel are under strong psychological pressure from the occupiers, all staff are carefully checked by armed terrorists upon arrival at the plant.
"The situation negatively affects the work and endangers nuclear and radiation safety. An accident may happen any moment, and its consequences are unpredictable," Energoatom underscores.
Currently, two power units of Zaporizhzhia NPP operate in the grid.
Earlier, Energoatom stated that it would completely stop purchasing Russian nuclear fuel.
