Only four buses able to get people out of Mariupol on Wed, evacuation to continue today

That’s according to Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk, Ukrinform reports.

“Speaking of Mariupol: Four evacuation buses managed to leave the city yesterday through the humanitarian corridor. They remained overnight in Berdiansk and are now heading to Vasylivka. We expect them to arrive in Zaporizhia soon,” Vereshchuk wrote.

The minister added that the evacuation of women, children, and the elderly from Mariupol would continue Thursday, April 21.

“The security situation is complicated. Changes are possible. Please follow the official announcements,” Vereshchuk said.

On the evening of April 20, Iryna Vereshchuk reported that due to the lack of control over their own military on the ground, the occupiers were unable to ensure proper ceasefire. Also, due to the inherent disorganization and negligence, the invaders were unable to provide timely transportation of people to the point where dozens of our buses and ambulances had been waiting.

Russia's aggression has created one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes in Mariupol. The invaders have been bombarding unarmed residents and blocking incoming humanitarian aid.

The Mariupol city head previously said that up to 20,000 civilians have been killed in the city since the onset of Russian invasion.

About 120,000 civilians remain in besieged Mariupol.
