Pentagon chief holds meeting with PM Shmyhal

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin held a meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal at the Pentagon.

The relevant report has been posted on the U.S. government official’s account on Twitter, according to Ukrinform.  

“I welcomed with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to the Pentagon. I reiterated our unwavering and enduring support for Ukraine’s Armed Forces as Russian forces launch a renewed offensive in eastern Ukraine,” the report says.

It is noted that the parties also discussed the new $800m aid package for Ukraine.

As Ukrinform reported, U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. administration had allocated an additional $800 million to help Ukraine strengthen its defense capabilities in the face of Russian armed aggression.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal is on a working visit to the United States on April 21-22. He is taking part in a ministerial meeting as part of The 2022 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG). The program of the visit also includes meetings with representatives of Congress, heads of international financial and humanitarian organizations, and U.S. ministers.
