Ukraine is no longer responsible for gas transit operations via the Russian-occupied territories, and Russia’s Gazprom has been duly notified of this.

The relevant statement was made by Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Ukraine is no longer responsible for natural gas transmission via the Russian-occupied territories. This refers to one-third of the total volume of gas transit operations towards Europe. Gazprom has been duly notified of this,” the report states.

According to Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC, a notification letter was sent to Russia’s Gazprom about the occurrence of force-majeure circumstances, preventing the company from conducting further gas transit operations via the Sokhranivka gas measuring station and the Novopskov border compressor station, which are situated within the Russian-occupied territories.

Gazprom was offered to transfer relevant gas transit volumes to the Sudzha interconnection point, which is situated within the Ukrainian-controlled area. This way Russia could have maintained gas transit operations and fulfilled its commitments to European partners.

According to Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC, now Ukraine can ensure the safety of gas transit operations within the Ukrainian-controlled territories only.

A reminder that, from 07:00 a.m., May 11, 2022, Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) LLC will stop to receive natural gas for Ukraine’s gas transmission system at the Sokhranivka interconnection point.
